Baerong Night Talk
Professionals from the film and literature industries will be invited to have a nighttime, candid talk on their respective art forms. Their different and interesting perspectives will provide rich and diverse discussions, and this year’s Baerong Night Talk will cover more expansive topics. Due to the pandemic attendance is limited to those who make a reservation in advance.

The Endless Sci-Fi Universe: Somewhere Between Paper and Screen
The world of Sci-Fi novels will be explored by Kim Choyeop, the author of ///If We Can’t Travel at the Speed of Light/// (winner of 43rd Today’s Author Award), and Winter Kim, an author/Youtuber (Winter Bookstore)/DJ. They will discuss the first novel of scientist-turned-novelist Kim Choyeop who has always been interested in the boundaries of different worlds. The audience will have a chance to see the attractive genre of sci-fi novel from the author’s perspective.

Bike: Power to Bring You Everywhere
“I feel distance from the past. This is all thanks to my bike” says Kim Kkobbi who calls herself a “missionary of bike”. With this program, she will show her short film ///Aimez-vous camping/// that she made just because she loves to travel by bike, and then discuss the new world she has discovered while riding. Kim will present an honest talk on how the bike gives us freedom, power, and changes and how the world sees the bike.

Reconstruction of Common Sense: Putting the Pieces of Inequality Together
The book <Reconstruction of Common Sense> is a mature and objective interpretation of the Korean society in which conflict never ceases. The author Cho Sunhee allows readers to independently explore the historical “facts” and political problems of a democratic society from a journalist’s point of view. In this Baerong Night Talk, Writer Cho Sunhee and Artistic Director of GIFF try to answer the question “Who are Koreans?” from multiple angles.

Delicious Movie Talk: Life-Enriching Foods from Movies
Movie is to see, and food is to see and taste. Movie and food have a common denominator in that they both stimulate our vision. Lee Jooick, the author of <Taste of Movie, All of a Sudden> and producer of film <Late Autumn>, reviews unique and various foods from movies, connecting the nature of the foods to characters’ personalities.

Novel to Screenplay: Two or Three Things About Adaptations
Kim Hoyeon, a screenwriter and novelist of 20 years, shares his experience of writing for various genres, such as film and literature. He shares his works: screenplays based on a movie treatment equivalent to the original (///Public Enemy///, ///Double Spy///), adapting a movie screenplay based on novels (///Heartbreak Hotel/// and ///The Fortress///) and screenplays based on his own novel (///Mangwon-dong Brothers///). In addition, the writer shares interesting stories with detail about how he adapted to the different demands of the film industry and the literary world as a screenwriter and a novelist.

Koreans Lost in Korean Cinema
Writer Keum Jungyun of <Cigarettes and Film> and writer Jeong Jidon of <Film and Poetry> introduce the audience to the column “Koreans Lost in Korean Cinema,” which is serialized in the Korean Film Archive. Like the joke that all cinephiles from all over the world hate their own countries’ films, the two writers talk about the conflicting feelings they have towards Korean cinema, their work and even monumental personal stories. The dialogue between the two artists allows audiences to share the same ironic emotions that can be felt in 21st century Korean films as a Korean living in the 21st century.

A new event introduced this year, participants can visit four independent bookstores in Gangneung to see recommended books at each location, discovering new qualities of literature. The Book Road starts from Daedohobu Gwana (a historical site of an official guesthouse for government officers) and offers information on unique, local cafes and restaurants. Those who finish the tour will be given gifts as well. An event will be set up at Daedohobu Gwana where visitors can check out all the independent bookstores in Gangneung to take a break while reading literature from a variety of diverse genres.

Gwana Stage
The CHEUNGCHUN MIC Gangwon Artist concert (in cooperation with the Gangneung Cultural Center) features performances arranged by young artists full of talent and passion. It will also include other Gangneung musicians that have prepared performances to showcase their local style and color. An OST performance has also been prepared and will take place before the special screening.
