15-year-old Alexis is a promising dancer of Havana’s Cuban National Ballet School. Well aware of his talents, he dreams of a grand future ahead of him. Thus, he leaves his hometown Havana to receive a quality education and step into a bigger world at a ballet school situated in Florida. But unfamiliar surroundings and a new educational system hinders Alexis from settling in. Intimidated and homesick, he has no choice but to adapt and prove he has what it takes. Director Roberto Salinas invested five years in the shooting of this film. The intimacy between Salinas and Alexis is evident in the film as this documentary literally accompanies Alexis’ growth process.///Cuban Dancer/// uses graceful and elegant dance sequences to tell the touching story of Alexis’s boldness to thrust himself into his own fate.

His previously directed documentary was an official selection of the 16th Havana Film Festival New York. His work is focused mainly on social and cultural issues.
