The Makavejev Case or Trial in a Movie Theater

Serbia201973mincolor/b&wDocumentary

reveals how the Communist Party used the open platform in socialist FR Yugoslavia to criticize Dusan's 1971 film . From the political and social perspective of the era, the film investigates the artist's position in socialist Yugoslavia. In fact, an open court trial was held at the Novi Sad movie theater and heated debate happened. Yugoslavia's security agency prohibited the recording of the incident, but one journalist Slobodan Miletić sneaked in equipment and recorded it. Goran Radovanovic shows his tribute to one of the great Eastern European film directors, and tries to shed light on the trauma of socialist Yugoslavia's greatest failure to establish democracy without true freedom or bring freedom without true democracy.
